Construction Management

The increasing population and climate change worldwide pose numerous challenges, especially in the construction sector. According to a report by the European Commission, about 35 million buildings need to be renovated in Europe alone, and at least 260 million new ones will need to be built to meet the population’s needs.

In 2023, the updated Construction Management study program is designed to prepare high-level construction engineers who can make complex construction management decisions using building information modeling (BIM) technologies in all stages of the building lifecycle, thereby contributing to the strategic EU goal of reducing environmental impact.

The program covers the application of BIM, including adding time (4D), cost (5D), lifecycle evaluation (6D), and project management components (7D) to the 3D model. During the program, strong methodological and scientific research competencies are ensured in the study process and through participation in scientific conferences and the preparation of scientific publications.

The program focuses on project management, contract coordination, work safety management, and teamwork. The program’s first semester focuses on collaboration in implementing real project solutions, starting from the preparation of a BIM implementation plan, the application of geoinformatics technologies for optimal decision-making and ending with the digitization of the entire building design and construction management processes.

In the second part of the program, students deepen their knowledge in quality management, sustainability assessment, and logistics decision-making. Depending on their needs, they expand their expertise in waste management and recycling technologies, modular construction and regenerative design, or building data analytics and machine learning.

*Studies are usually conducted in the evenings, but some academic activities occur during the daytime.

The newest IT solutions

The program emphasizes the application of building information modelling and strengthens analytical and modelling competencies by deepening software usage skills. Main programs used: Revit, NavisWorks, ArcGIS, BexelManager, Sensoneo, Python, Graphical Scripting, OneClickLCA, etc.

Practical final works

Master’s theses topics are submitted by the Faculty’s study committee, taking into account the annual Sustainable Development goal defined by the faculty, with a social partner or submitted by the student himself.

You will become professionally creative

Construction management decisions require a broad approach and the ability to think fundamentally. You will be ready to apply scientific research in a practical environment, creatively interpret its data, evaluate aspects, and generate new solutions and ideas. Perfectly adaptable – such specialists are especially valued in the modern labour market.

Career

What will you gain?

  • Creatively apply the latest knowledge of civil engineering for the solution of non-standard problems;
  • Prepare the project solutions for buildings and engineering structures;
  • Have knowledge of multi-dimensional economic, social, environmental and business aspects;
  • Model the complex construction processes when information is inaccurate or uncertain;
  • Assure the quality management in standard and non-standard construction processes during the project implementation.

You may become

Construction manager of a building*

These specialists manage the construction works and represent the interests of contractors or builders. They supervise the implementation of a building from the beginning to the end of construction, coordinate the implementation of works and assure the building’s quality standards.

*The attestation of SPSC construction specialists is required.

Project manager of a building*

These people coordinate the solutions related to the project of a building and its management. They represent the builder’s interests, organise the project implementation under the procedure stipulated by the law of the Republic of Lithuania and assure the compliance with the requirements of project preparation, safety and purpose documentation.
