Structural and Building Products Engineering

What materials will we use to build the houses of the future? The construction industry is resource-intensive, so pre-fabricated building elements are becoming increasingly popular. Instead of traditional steel and reinforced concrete, we are increasingly discussing composite and organic materials, including engineered wood. Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology allows for modeling future structures down to the smallest construction elements, leading to the growing export of advanced products manufactured by Lithuanian construction companies.

In 2023, we updated our study program. It is designed to prepare highly qualified engineers capable of applying advanced digital tools for creating structures and products and their analysis.

During the program’s first semester, you will learn about advanced reinforced concrete and steel structures, innovations in construction product manufacturing technologies, methods for testing construction products and structures, and become more familiar with the finite element method.

In the second part of the program, you will learn more about new composite materials and wood properties and how to ensure the reliability of structural constructions. You will also learn how to strengthen existing structures, learn about the life cycle and durability, and deepen your knowledge in waste management and secondary raw materials recycling technologies, modular construction, regenerative design, and data science for smart buildings.

In addition, you will pay attention to innovation and scientific research, which you can develop together with partners from business companies and faculty scientists.

*Studies are usually conducted in the evenings, but some academic activities occur during the daytime.

Civil Engineering study field degree.

IELTS ≥6.0, TOEFL ≥85, CEFR ≥C1, or previously completed studies in english language.

Average grade (CGPA) > 60 %

Additional requirements

Often you can get a suitable transcript of bachelor degree from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Russian.

The documents must be legalised (Apostille) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country where the documents were issued. This requirement does not apply for the documents issued in the EU and Belarus, Ukraine.

Additional component for the competition score:

Additional points can be added to the competition score for the following activities:

  • science activities (scientific publications, presentations at scientific conferences, participation in exhibitions, work in student science society or science group etc.) or art activities (publication or realization of artwork, participation in art exhibitions, contests of architecture) (up to 2 points);
  • at least 1 year work experience in the field of study programme (0,5 points);
  • partial studies in the higher education institution abroad with ≥24 ECTS completed (0,5 points);
  • graduated from academic talent development program in higher education institution (for example “GIFTed talent academy”) (0,5 points);
  • bachelor’s or master’s (if integrated study programme is completed) degree diploma with honors (0,5 points).

Points from the same criteria are only added once. Points from different criteria are added up. The maximum score from additional points criteria can be no higher than 4.

During the studies, it is ensured that the graduates will acquire strong methodological and scientific research and digital competencies in the study process and by participating in scientific conferences and preparing scientific publications.

The newest IT solutions

The program emphasizes the application of building information modeling and strengthens analytical and modeling competencies by deepening software usage skills. Software used: SCIA, IDEA Statica, Revit, Sensoneo, Python, Graphical Scripting, OneClickLCA, etc.

Soft skills

Students are trained in teamwork, working in groups, interculturality, internationality, and negotiation skills.

The demand for such engineers is huge, so the students of this KTU study program get a job even during their studies. Studies show that 96 to 100 percent of graduates get a job in their specialty after their studies. We cooperate with international companies “Peikko Lietuva”, INHUS Engineering, Staticus, Ecodomus, YIT Lietuva and etc.

These specialists carry out a wide range of applied research, consult on construction matters, perform activity analysis, supervise the organization of the process, evaluate the efficiency of construction, and promote innovative solutions.

These supervisors manage and coordinate the implementation of a project. They design high-reliability class buildings, reconstructions, and oversee the work of these projects.

These experts take care of technical evaluation of a building, they improve construction and engineering solutions, prepare technical documentation.

These managers ensure that a construction process is being carried out according to the design project (or part of it). They take care of the development and allocates responsibilities, coordinates processes with customers, and strives to do all this by following professional, ethical, and environmental standards.
