Politics and Security Studies

In a world where problems go beyond borders and disciplines, where threats previously thought to be independent, are found to be interconnected, where distinctions between what is domestic policy and what is foreign policy are becoming more and more tenuous, students need training and perspective to break down disciplinary silos. This is a perfect study programme for budding policy research professionals. This programme provides students with a deep knowledge of social research methods, which are used to analyse public policy and security problems.

The programme aims to prepare competent specialists having solid understanding of public policies and governance, able to examine and evaluate security processes in a comparative perspective, to design and implement relevant analyses applying advanced methodological approaches that form the backbone of evidence-based recommendations.

The study programme has been renewed in 2019 duration is now 3 years.

Excellent knowledge of politics and international processes

Graduates of the programme will have knowledge of national and international politics and different security policy areas. They will be able to analyse Lithuanian and international policy cases by applying qualitative and quantitative methods of social research. In addition, graduates will be able to independently identify policy and security problems, and provide solutions to them.

Opportunity to work in the public sector

Graduates will be able to work in consultative, managerial, and research areas in municipalities, ministries, embassies, institutions and organisations of the European Union, public and private sector organisations, and non-governmental organisations. The graduates of the programme tend to find positions such as consultants of international organisations, political parliamentary careers, or working in political parties.

Valuable data for a better study process

Students have unique access to the Lithuanian Data Archive for Social Science and Humanities (LiDA), and can contribute to the implementation of research projects using data from international research programmes: issp.org, europeansocialsurvey.org. Julija Stanaitytė

What caught my attention was the study programme description. Moreover, studies promised a variety of different subjects to be learnt, which would help gain the necessary experience. The knowledge I’ve gained is already proving to be useful in everyday life and personal growth. I am very happy with the studies, the skills and experience I’ve gained are invaluable. What is more, all hardships were balanced out with kind lecturers and a cosy academic space, and good study results were rewarded with a sponsorship. I firmly believe in the success of this study programme, and in a prosperous future for us, the very first graduates of the programme.
