Public Communication

The competence offers students to improve their skills to communicate their disciplinary knowledge to a public audience. If you want to improve your oral and written communications skills and feel more confident while communicating, this competence is designed for you. You will get knowledge about the types, preparation and presentation of public speeches, you will master your skills in designing and delivery of speeches for various audiences, also, you will learn to apply different techniques of speaking depending on various types of speeches. If you sometimes feel overwhelmed, the knowledge and practice you gain throughout the competence, will help you to overcome anxiety and master non-verbal communication.

You will also be able to get the skills of academic writing, understand the structure and organization of research papers, write academic essays, summaries, abstracts, thus, you will be able to prepare texts for various target readers. If you want your work to be appreciated, it has to be accessible and readable for a wide audience, thus, the text has to be clear, concise, the format has to be adapted depending on the audience and the type of publication. Therefore, you will get experience to write essays and eventually will feel more comfortable and confident in academic as well as public communication in English (level C1). 

Students will be required to take a language placement test.

Study subjects

Studies of Modern Languages (Level C1) (H360M011)
Students obtain knowledge of professional and scientific vocabulary. Competences in making analysis and references of professional and scientific literature and compiling glossaries are gained. Students are able to prepare and make academic presentations by demonstrating their skills in professional and/or scientific communication.
Academic Writing (H360M111)
The students will acquire the skills of academic writing, will understand the structure and organization of research paper, will be able to prepare presentations, to write summaries and reviews. They will be able to make use of electronic databases and interactive technologies in research and will be able to participate in academic discussions and express themselves fluently in written or oral form, to communicate with different types of audiences.
Public Speaking (H360M110)
Students acquire knowledge about the types, preparation and presentation of public speeches. They acquire skills how to prepare for a speech, learn how to collect materials for different topics, learn to form the structure of a presentation and use visual aids and linguistic means. They develop skills to speak in front of audience by applying different techniques of speaking depending on the type of speech. They develop skills of non-verbal communication and overcoming anxiety.
