Sustainable Management and Production

Studies of Sustainable Management and Production are based on interdisciplinary learning, which is required in the modern society. During studies real environmental problems of the companies are solved in cooperation with the practitioners, as well as practical applied tasks for improvement of efficiency of the environmental protection are performed. Effective combination of mandatory and elective study modules provides students with a possibility of individual study plans, enabling acquisition of competences in the areas of sustainable industrial development, environmental protection, policy and economics.

The Master+ model offers either to masterpiece in the chosen discipline by choosing the Field Expert track or to strengthen the interdisciplinary skills by choosing the Interdisciplinary Expert track emphasising managerial skills or a choice of a different competence to compliment the chosen discipline and achieve a competitive advantage in one’s career.

During my Master degree studies I learned to apply systematic approach while solving various environmental issues. I deepened my knowledge of the systems theory, how it can be applied in practical work at the company. I successfully apply the acquired knowledge in everyday activities. This study programme is valuable not only for environmental specialists, but also for entrepreneurs, managers, because acquired knowledge and practical skills are oriented to the enhancement of the competitiveness of business while solving various business issues using environmentally friendly methods (cleaner production, environmental management, lifecycle assessment, etc.). I can state that lecturers of this study programme are specialists in their areas, who can interest and involve students both in the study processes and in the search of practical application for the knowledge; they constantly improve their qualification in local and international projects, participate in international conferences and various business and environmental events. I am glad that we have not lost connection with the programme’s lecturers even after the graduation, we are invited to the conferences, meeting and continue our mutually beneficial cooperation.


Student’s competences:
– To assess environmental, social and economic aspects of production processes, company or region aiming to make integrated and substantiated solutions guiding the company’s performance towards long-term competitiveness and responsible performance;
– To prepare an investment project of sustainable innovations for a product, company or region;
– To systematically assess sustainability aspects in production and management insuring further economically efficient, socially responsible and environmentally friendly activities-leadership for sustainable development;
– Inter-field competences of engineering, production engineering and business;
– To apply advanced engineering methods and latest technologies while solving complex production, company’s or regional problems.

Student’s skills:
– Able to assess the environmental impact of industrial technologies, processes and products based on the knowledge of environmental processes and integrated engineering;
– Able to introduce and administer environmental management systems, manage production, environmental and other management documentation in the industrial and service companies;
– Able to prepare and present reports on environmental management, social responsibility and sustainability;
– Able to analyse business, industrial and regional problems and propose economically efficient, environmentally and socially beneficial innovations for management of sustainability risks;
– Able to implement engineering solutions for cleaner production, analyse and assess their efficiency, apply ecological design principles for product development and make integrated assessment of environmental, economic, social and technological aspects while making important decisions.

– Preparation, implementation and monitoring of strategic plans, programmes, policy, processes, systems and procedures;
– Preparation, administration and supervision of scientific research and analysis of policy;
– Supervision and management of activities of the employees responsible for policy making and strategic planning.

– Organisation and supervision of project’s employees, delivery of materials, machinery and equipment;
– Consultations to the management on new production methods, techniques and equipment;
– Participation in analysis, improvement and production of products and processes.

– Providing consultations on sustainable development of natural resources and provision of assistance to the state institutions, organisations and businesses;
– Performance of audit assessing the environmental impact of activities, processes, waste, noise and materials;
– Provision of assistance to organisations and technical consultations on the best way to solve environmental issues for reduction of the environmental impact and reduced financial loss.

– Coordination of environmental management system and its implementation, establishment of the environmental impact of products, projects and activities;
– Preparation and implementation of environmental plans;
– Implementation of the organisation’s strategy, process coordination, management.

– Environmental assessment of building and civil construction projects; application of engineering principles in the areas of pollution control, waste prevention, processing and disposal;
– Inspection of production and municipal premises and programmes assessing performance efficiency and ensuring compliance with the documents regulating environmental protection;
– Cooperation with ecologists, designers, hazardous waste specialists, engineers of other areas, legal professionals and business specialists while solving environmental problems.

– Integration of the principles of social responsibility of businesses in the organisation’s management structure;
– Preparation, coordination and auditing of environmental management systems.

Undergraduate diploma (or higher) with min. length of 180 ECTS (3 years of studies) is eligible.
