Important | 2026-04-29

According to the national ranking published today by Reitingai magazine, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) has scored 56.36 points, maintaining a strong national position and reaffirming its standing as the leading engineering university among the 15 state and private higher education institutions evaluated. The consistency of these results reflects both the University’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence and its ability to adapt to increasing competition and evolving evaluation methodologies.

KTU continues to strengthen its performance in one of the rankings’ most significant criteria – encompassing scientific, artistic and/or sporting activities and the added value generated for the national economy. This is the area where KTU recorded its greatest score increase, both relative to other criteria and compared to other Lithuanian universities, underscoring the University’s growing contribution to the country’s economic development and innovation ecosystem.

“KTU is steadily advancing in the most strategically important areas – research and innovation, industry collaboration, and study quality. This enables the university not only to retain its leading position among technological universities in Lithuania, but also to systematically enhance its competitiveness in the international higher education landscape,” says Agnė Latvelė, Project Manager at KTU’s Strategy Monitoring and Quality Department.

For the third year in a row, KTU has maintained its leading position in the field of technological sciences based on the number of research papers included in formal evaluation. KTU also leads in terms of the volume of applied research and experimental development projects carried out in 2024, as well as the value of commissions for artistic activities from the country’s natural and legal persons.

For the third consecutive year, KTU has led in technological sciences based on the number of research papers included in formal evaluation. The university also tops the rankings for the volume of applied research and experimental development projects conducted in 2024, commissioned by both natural and legal persons in Lithuania. These results reflect KTU’s active and productive collaboration with business, industry, the public sector, and non-governmental organisations – creating the conditions for effective knowledge transfer, technology development, and innovation.

On the international stage, KTU demonstrates strong research ambitions, ranking second in Lithuania by the value of ongoing international research programme projects. This highlights the university’s deepening engagement in global research networks, strategically developed international partnerships, and its capacity to successfully compete for international funding.

The added value created by alumni and employer evaluations also plays a significant role in the overall assessment. The latest employer survey results confirm that KTU graduates are considered among the best-prepared in Lithuania, with their smooth labour market integration and professional competitiveness reinforcing the university’s reputation among employers and wider society alike.

In the criterion covering current and future academic staff, KTU stands out for its leading position in terms of the ratio of doctors of science and arts to total teaching staff. This reflects the University’s capacity to deliver high-quality study and research outcomes grounded in strong academic expertise – from transferring cutting-edge knowledge to engaging students in real-world research. This concentration of academic competence strengthens the Iniversity’s broader impact on society, business, and the public sector, forming the foundation of a sustainable innovation ecosystem.

This year, Lithuanian universities were assessed across 43 parameters grouped into five criteria: I – scientific, artistic or sporting activities and added value to the national economy (35 points); II – added value created by alumni and employer evaluations (30 points); III – students and studies (20 points); IV – competitiveness in the international higher education landscape (10 points); and V – current and future academic staff (5 points).
