New Media Language

This study programme focuses on languages and their application in various media. Studying New Media Language, you will learn how to use language in blogs and social networks, will pick up skills and knowledge of language application for audio-visual arts, software, websites, video games.

This programme is designed for those who would like to learn to “play” with language, to master the subtleties of electronic communication, to analyse the “grammar” of visual design and to get good command over foreign languages. During their studies, the New Media Language students learn at least one additional language and can choose minor studies in the chosen field.

KTU’s BSc New Media Language is a Joint Program of the Applied European Languages (AEL) network, which means that the students can spend two years of their studies in Spain, France or other countries at the network universities.

The graduates of New Media Language can seek a career in any organisation, carrying out projects in communications, public relations, publishing, marketing, advertising, media design, translation areas.

Maximum 3 years after high school graduation is eligible.

Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Russian.

The documents must be legalised (Apostille) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country where the documents were issued. This requirement does not apply for the documents issued in the EU and Belarus, Ukraine.

Minimum average grade (CGPA) > 60 % in each entry subject.

Are you interested in creating real products and services while studying? It is now possible to test yourself by getting involved in a product development project (PDP). During the project, you will work in teams, collaborating with KTU researchers and social partners. While solving current, relevant problems you will improve your teamwork, project management, and problem-solving skills, deepen professional knowledge and expand your career opportunities.

Student’s competences
Knowledge of applied linguistics and ability to apply them in a creative and methodological manner while analysing and creating texts for medias; Knowledge of modern medias, their culture, power, social control and virtual communities; English language at level C1, second foreign language at level B2.

Student’s skills
– Able to create, analyse, edit and interpret texts in English in various areas and genres in the context of new medias;
– Able to comprehend and assess the processes of media culture;

Media writer, author

Creating an idea, writing and editing of prose, articles, advertisement texts, instructions for use and other published or presented works;
Selection of the published material, revision of style, correctness of language and accuracy of content.

Web and multimedia developer

Design of computer code, analysis and design of websites;
Design and development of digital animation, photographs, games, audio and video clips, Internet applications;
Maintenance of communication with network specialists for control and assurance of safety of the Internet and web server, distribution of space and user access.

Specialist of administration and executive areas

Maintenance of communication of the organisational division, implementation and maintenance of document preparation and coordination of internal management;
Cooperation and maintenance of communication regarding various issues related to the organisation’s operations;
Guarantee of compliance with respective legislations, regulating documents and standards.

 

 

BA+ competences

BA+ competence blocks offered in KTU Bachelor’s study programmes can be an alternative study plan for:

  • the specialisations;
  • individual set of modules;
  • the subjects providing deeper knowledge of the study field.

A student who chooses BA+ competence, acquires the knowledge and skills in an additional study field, and discovers new career prospects. Acquisition of the competence is certified by the issue of KTU certificate and entry in the diploma supplement.
